How to export your Lightning Bolt (PerfectServe) schedule to a calendar (iCal / webcal link)

Lightning Bolt (PerfectServe) can give you a private calendar link (it starts with webcal:// or https://). Add that link to your phone's calendar and your shifts stay up to date on their own. Paste the same link into DutyHourCheck to check your schedule against ACGME duty-hour rules.

Find your Lightning Bolt (PerfectServe) calendar link

  1. Lightning Bolt has a calendar subscription feature for iOS, Android, Google and Outlook, but its exact menu path is not publicly documented and depends on how your organization set it up.
  2. Open your personal schedule in Lightning Bolt (web or app) and look for Calendar Sync or Subscribe, then copy the link.
  3. If your hospital only syncs Lightning Bolt into Outlook, publish that Outlook calendar (see Outlook below) and paste that link instead.
  4. Still stuck? Your scheduler or chief can tell you whether calendar subscription is turned on.

๐Ÿ”‘ Keep the link private.

Add it to your calendar app

Subscribed calendars refresh on the calendar app's own schedule, which can be several hours. Check Lightning Bolt (PerfectServe) itself before a shift swap.

Check it against duty-hour rules

Paste the link into DutyHourCheck. It flags EM shifts over 12 hours, rest shorter than the shift before it, weeks over 60 clinical or 72 total hours, no day off in 7, and more than 6 nights in a row, or the Common Program Requirements (80 hours averaged over 4 weeks, 24+4, 14 hours off after 24-hour call). The check runs in your browser and the free audit stays free.
